This is how the story goes – this is the story about Jake, who after 37 years of marriage dumped his wife for his young secretary. So, what happened next? Well, the usual stuff – his new girlfriend (the young secretary) asked that they live in Jake and Edith’s multi – million dollars’ home.
And, guess what – Jake had better and more capable lawyers – so, he won. Edith, his ex – wife, had to leave the house in just 3 days. She spent the 1st day packing her belongings into boxes and crates. On the second day, she had two movers come and collect her things. And the last day, she sat down for the last time at their beautiful dining room table by candlelight, put on some soft background music, and ate a pound of shrimp, a jar of caviar and a bottle of Chardonnay. After that, she went into each and every room and stuffed half – eared shrimp shells dipped in caviar into the hollow of all the curtain rods.
Editch cleaned the kitchen and left. When Jake returned home with his new girlfriend, all was bliss for the first few days. Then slowly, several days later the house began to smell. They tried everything from cleaning, mopping and airing the place out. All vents were checked for dead rodents and carpets were cleaned. Also, they put air fresheners everywhere in the house.
Jake called the exterminators to set off gas, so they had to move out of the house for a few days. After that, they even replaced the expensive wool carpeting. But, nothing worked. After some time, people stopped coming over. Even the battler refused to work in the house. The maid quit. They had no other choice and because and decided to move. After 1 month, they could not find a buyer for their stinky house – even for half of the prize. Even the local real estate agent refused to return their calls. Finally, they had to borrow a huge sum of money from the bank to purchase a new place. Edith was curious and called Jake to ask him how things were going. He told her the saga of the rotting house.
Edith listened carefully and said that she missed her old home terribly and would be willing to reduce her divorce settlement in exchange for getting the house back. Jake was convinced that his ex – wife has no idea how bad the smell was, and agreed on a price that was about 1/10th of what the house had been worth, but only if she were the sign the papers that very day. So, Edith said yes and his lawyers delivered the paperwork. Just one week later, Jake and his girlfriend stood smiling as they watched the moving company pack everything to take to their new home. Including the curtain rods.
